Domaine Sébastien Dampt
Sébastien Dampt is undeniably the rising star of Chablis. He is part of a dynasty that has been making wine in the region for over 150 years. Having studied in Beaune and gained experience around France, he returned to work for the family domaine in 2005 alongside father Daniel and brother Vincent. In 2007 he took 7 ha of family land and created an estate in his own name based in Milly, nestled between the 1er Cru vineyards of Côte de Léchet and Vaillons in the south east of Chablis. It is completely surrounded by vines and boasts state of the art technology as well as a wonderful tasting room, overlooking the beautiful vineyards of Vaillons and Les Lys.
Split 50/50 between Village wine and Premier Cru, the wines are all vinified and raised in stainless steel tanks to ensure the pure fruited approach and retention of acidity in the classic style, much loved of this venerable region. These wines offer some of the greatest value in Chablis. Milly is one of the only two places where you can taste the Chablis premier cru Les Beugnons. There, the soil is very chalky, a mix of clay, explains Sébastien Dampt. The wines have a reputation for being more mineral and concentrated.
Phoenix Fine Wines & Vineyards is delighted to represent one of the Chablis wine region’s up and coming stars, Sébastien Dampt, a calm, considered young man, completely dedicated to his craft and passionate about Chablis, who makes pure, lean and crisp wines. UK critic Tim Atkin has named Domaine Sébastien Dampt on his list of the ‘Top 25 best value producers’, so it is definitely one to watch.
